SED Science: Toshiba and Canon created the surface-­conduction electron-emitter display by placing a thin film of ­palladium oxide between two electrodes. When electrons pass across tiny gaps in the film, some are scattered and strike fluorescent materials to create the red, green, and blue ­components of a TV image.
