Early This Year, there
came to light a huge network of clandestine nuclear trafficking coordinated by
the Pakistani scientist A.Q. Khan [left] and his associates. It was well known
that Khan had purloined European centrifuge technology in the 1970s and made
it the basis of Pakistan's nuclear program, but his international dealings were
a surprise. Meanwhile, North Korea's leader Kim Jong Il [right] started to barter
the country's advanced missile technology for nuclear know-how. Reportedly, so
many North Korean missile scientists are in Iran today that a beach resort was
built for them.
