Chip Making
By transmitting an atom laser beam through a holographic mask, manufacturers
will be able to build circuits with lines just one atom wide. Similar holographic
techniques could be used to make other nanoscale devices.
Navigating
Gyroscopes based on atom lasers could be built in to inertial-guidance (or dead-reckoning)
systems, providing planes, submarines, and other vessels with their exact location,
without having to refer to any external guideposts, as the Global Positioning
System does.
Measuring and detecting
Interferometers built around atom lasers will be sensitive
enough to detect even slight variations in the strength of gravitational fields
coming from oil deposits, tunnels, or magma flows deep underground.
