Close Call

NASA's announcement on 2 March that one of its Mars rovers had found evidence of a large body of water on the Red Planet saved the bacon—or, in this case, the shrimp—for restaurant chain Long John Silver's, based in Louisville, Ky. In January, the chain said that if such a discovery were reported by 29 February, it would give a free shrimp to everyone in the United States. NASA's report's coming on 2 March saved the company more than US $231 million.
